Sanubari Jakarta
We found love in a hopeless place….we found love in a hopeless place…
That's a part of Rihanna's song that always on our mind. We always think to get love from someone dan when we found love there always in a hopeless place.
That's what we see on "Sanubari Jakarta" movie, Jakarta is a city full of dream or for few people call this town as a hopeless place to live and love ofcourse. I didn't say that Jakarta is hopeless city but it's not the city, it is the 10 stories of 10 directors for 110 minutes duration movie. This love story can be said as unique because it's focused on LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisex, and Transexual) issue. It reminds us that never been a movie like this before. This movie tries to open up Jakartans and also Indonesian, that minority people that still get violence and discrimination have a rights to survive in public and also open our eyes that they still have love wherever they are even in the most hopeless place.
This movie has 10 stories or segments but don't expect something like sadness or sorrowness among this movie. These are the reviews:
“1/2” Directed By Tika Pramesti

“Malam Ini Aku Cantik” Directed by Dinda Kanyadewi
This story told us about Agus's life, a shemale who makes some money from many guys and how is his feelings for being humilliated because of it. Well, there's a scene that will make us interested but feel guilty, a sexual abuse...
“Lumba-Lumba” Directed by Lola Amari
A kindegarten teacher named Adinda who always teachs to draw dolphin met a mother of her student named Anggia, their connection has turned to be a relationship. This segment has a light flow, story of a lesbian relationship but overall, this story has no climax. Just flow, straightly. Well, it isn't really str8 anyway.
“Terhubung” Directed by Alfrits John Robert

Two girls, Agatha and Kartika, didn't know each other and face different problem. Kartika's life is always being bend even in rights of choosing a lover. Agatha just broke up with a girl who is gonna be married a man by her family coercion. But in coincidencer, they are connected.
“Kentang” Directed by Aline Jusria

“Menunggu Warna” Directed by Adriyanto Kusumo Dewo
A guy who has a sweet and romantic lovelife who tries to live in perfection but at the end, the question is was that real? This is the coolest story than 9 other stories. The grayscale mode and no dialogue makes this story is cool and the smart ending adding my complimet for this story
“Pembalut” Directed by Billy Christian
This story told us about a lesbian couple Bianca and Theresa who are in a motel room. The debate about their problems, start from switched bra, period, and the crucial problem of their relationship. In one unconditinal time they both will need a sanitary napkins. The actress, Gesata Stella played 4 characters in this story. At first, I didn't notice that she did it. She acted outstanding!
“Topeng Srikandi” Directed by Kirana Larasati
A woman named Srikandi, she turned her appearance to be a man to revenge her boss who rapped her in office. Honestly, I didn't really get what the message of this story, this isn't suitable with 9 other stories about the LGBT issue. But the acting of the actress Herfiza Novianty is outstanding.
“Untuk A” Directed by Fira Sofiana

“Kotak Coklat” Directed by Sim F
A romanctic story between a man named Reuben and women named Miea. They fell in love a the first sight. Reuben found a chocolate box (kotak coklat) on Miea's workdesk dan that brings Reuben to past of their childhood. This segment story is really appropriate as an ending story of this omnibus. Ofcourse I would say that this is the most romantic story but I have guessed what will happen in the end but the cinematography helps to make this story watched beutifully.
Overall, "Sanubari Jakarta" is recommended to watch, it gives us different way to watch a drama movie, a movie that tells us about a hidden urban reality. A drama arthouse movie and straight to point in screening. Love can be felt by anyone, even they are lesbian, gay, tranny or even bisexual. It is time to devour with the minority and not to underestimate them. It is imaged that Jakarta is a big city and we often find a love in a hopeless place. I agree with that. Hidden fact, right?
